The Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy (JBRPC)is a public-private partnership established in 2013 that is dedicated to improving the 10,000 acres of public parkland throughout Jamaica Bay and the Rockaway Peninsula for local residents and visitors alike. With its partners at the National Park Service, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation JBRPC works to expand public access; increase recreational and educational opportunities; foster citizen stewardship and volunteerism; preserve and restore natural areas, including wetland and wildlife habitat; enhance cultural resources; and ensure the long-term sustainability of the parklands. Join the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy and QueensLink for a shoreline cleanup as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day!Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary encompasses 39 acres of salt marsh and wildlife habitat. Named for Dr. Rene Dubos, who coined the phrase “Think Globally, Act Locally,” we’ll remove trash and marine debris from this salt marsh-lined shoreline. Act locally with us, enjoy stunning city views and wildlife sightings, and help protect this vital coastal habitat in Jamaica Bay.We’re proud to partner with QueensLink, a grassroots transit and sustainability initiative advocating for the reactivation of rail infrastructure to create a new subway line connecting southern Queens to northern neighborhoods. Their vision not only improves transit equity—it also supports environmental goals by reducing stormwater pollution, cutting CO₂ emissions, and expanding access to green spaces.Come lend a hand, meet local advocates, and learn how projects like QueensLink align with broader efforts to restore and protect our coastal ecosystems.International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), spearheaded by Ocean Conservancy, is a global annual initiative that rallies volunteers to remove trash from beaches and waterways. Since its launch in 1986, more than 18 million participants across 150+ countries have joined forces to eliminate over 380 million pounds of debris from coastal environments. Beyond the physical cleanup, the ICC emphasizes the power of data collection—volunteers log the types of trash they collect, helping scientists and policymakers better understand the sources and impacts of marine pollution and craft informed solutions. Gloves, bags, and cleanup tools will be provided. Volunteers will meet at the end of <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/K3swyDc7qQKGR4Gj9" title="https://maps.app.goo.gl/K3swyDc7qQKGR4Gj9" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> De Costa Ave in Arverne, NY</a>. Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring their own water and sunscreen. The event is rain or shine. JBRPC Community Stewardship Programs are generously supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, Con Edison, NYC Green Fund, and NYC Ferry, operated by Hornblower. Public funding is provided by NY Senator Roxanne Persaud, Assemblymembers Stacey Pheffer-Amato and Jaime R.
