The Center for Spirituality and Sustainability is an independent, not-for-profit organization located in a geodesic dome designed by Buckminster Fuller on land leased from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Since 1971 the Center has served the University and area communities as a place for multifaith and interfaith activity.  A variety of educational, cultural and social events are held throughout the year inside this landmark structure.Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Baha’i and Native American faith traditions hold devotions, celebrations and public programs at the Center. A “Celebration of World Faiths” is held annually, highlighting various faith traditions and interfaith issues. The Center also hosts an annual awards ceremony honoring two awardees each year. One award is presented for spiritual leadership and another for leadership in sustainability. These annual dual awards allow the Center recognize those who have shown leadership values that reenforce the Center's mission to promote humanity's sacred connection to the Earth and each other.

Friday, September 12, 2025, 8:00PM • Stories from the First People of the Pacific Northwest with Johnny Moses in the Fuller Dome on the SIUE CampusJohnny Moses, Whis-stem-men-knee – Walking Medicine Robe (Nuu-chah-nulth and Coast Salish)Johnny Moses is a traditionally trained Native American memorizer, singer, and master storyteller. In this presentation for all ages, he will share songs, stories, and teachings from Native American peoples of the Pacific Northwest.Johnny is a recipient of the Washington Governor’s Heritage Award. His collection of 80 songs from the Native Northwest was released in 2017 by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.Johnny has told stories, given presentations, and led song and prayer circles at the Fuller Dome every few years for three decades. Many individuals, of all ages, have learned from, and been uplifted by the words he has shared.This is his eighth visit to speak in the southern Illinois and St. Louis region. In 1996, on his first visit, recordings were made that are included in his book, Sacred Breath: Pacific Northwest Medicine Teachings, Stories, and Epics, forthcoming in 2026 from the University of Nebraska Press.

This event is open for all ages and although it is free, registration is required. The Fuller Dome is located on the SIUE campus just off of Circle Drive next to Vistor Parking Lot B.
