2021 TORCH Teen Retreat

The New York City Hemophilia Chapter (NYCHC) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization incorporated in 2008 to address the needs of the bleeding disorder community in the greater NYC area. NYCHC's mission is to foster a sense of community amongst people affected by bleeding disorders, and to assist them and their families through information, education, advocacy, shared experiences and mutual support.

New York City Hemophilia Chapter

This retreat will foster independence, self-advocacy, support, and accountability among teens in the bleeding disorders community.

Pocono Environmental Education Center

The 2021 TORCH Retreat will be held from Friday, August 13 to Sunday, August 15 at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC), a short 2 hour drive from NYC in the Delaware Water Gap region. This event will feature:<ul><li>Hiking</li><li>Ropes Course</li><li>Orienteering</li><li>Team Building and Leadership Skills</li><li>Games</li><li>Canoeing</li><li>Campfires &amp; S&#x27;Mores</li></ul>TORCH (Teen Opportunities and Resources for Community Health) is NYCHC&#x27;s teen program for teens ages 13-18 within the Greater NYC bleeding disorders community. The goal of this retreat is to foster independence, self-advocacy, support, and accountability among teens, while also building future leaders in the bleeding disorders community.Staff includes NYCHC staff, a nurse, young adult mentors, and chaperones in addition to PEEC’s onsite staff.Transportation We’ll be providing free round-trip transportation to and from PEEC. Details on the drop off location and time will be provided to registered attendees.COVID-19 Precautions Attendees will be asked to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test or proof of being fully vaccinated against the virus. Temperature checks will also be performed. We will be following all CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health Guidelines. <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/summer-camps.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Learn more about Camp Guidelines here</a>.Cost and Registration <ul><li>This program is free , however, spaces are limited.</li><li>This event is open only to teenagers with bleeding disorders (ages 13 -18) and their siblings living in their immediate household from the New York City tri state area. </li><li>The last day to register is Friday, July 23. </li></ul>
