A guided tour highlighting the stories of Portland's historically marginalized communities

<a href="https://atlanticblackbox.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Atlantic Black Box</a> and <a href="https://indigoartsalliance.me/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Indigo Arts Alliance</a> invite you to engage with memory, art, and place through the latest offering in our ReMapping New England series.Taking inspiration from Howard Zinn&#x27;s A People&#x27;s History of the United States, this tour through Portland&#x27;s Old Port highlights the stories of the city&#x27;s historically marginalized communities. From the colonial assault on Indigenous peoples to the enslavement of Africans, ABB Education Coordinator Seth Goldstein will help to reveal the brutal realities hidden behind many of our finest facades while projecting onto the built environment the many contributions of the resilient and extraordinary individuals who lived and labored here.Event details:Barring a torrential downpour, meet at the globe sculpture situated at the intersection of Commercial and Franklin Streets in the Old Port. In case of rain, the tour will be rescheduled for the same day and time the following week.Cost: $15 per ticket. Student, senior, and BIPOC discounts available.This tour is considered a low-exertion-level activity involving two hours of moderately paced walking throughout downtown Portland. We suggest wearing breathable clothing and comfortable shoes; don’t forget a water bottle to stay hydrated. Ages 6+. Please call (508)364-2139 for any questions or concerns.
