Mission Statement:Charlotte Street centers Kansas City’s most forward-thinking visual artists, writers, and performers— acting as the primary incubator, provocateur, and connector for the region’s contemporary arts community, and its leading advocate on the national stage. Since 1997, Charlotte Street has distributed over $1.85 million in awards and grants to artists and their innovative projects, and connected individual artists to each other and to the greater Kansas City community. The first of three Because of This performances will be happening on Juneteenth, Saturday, June 19 at 7-10PM via Zoom!!

Because of This performances are an opportunity for artists to make space, celebrate, and connect the many voices that make the music and performance scenes that thrive in the Midwest. We want to give the mic to the Black, Indigenous vocalists, poets, musicians and performers of color to celebrate their craft.Come celebrate the works of:Mayyadda (Minneapolis, Minnesota)Tonina Saputo (St. Louis, Missouri)Dwight Edward Brown Jr. (Lincoln, Nebraska)--Because Of This performances will be offered through a virtual platform until quarter three of this series -- at which point we will be hosting them in person at Charlotte Street Foundation&#x27;s Courtyard.
