We are thrilled to announce that the Fall 2025 Community Read for the incoming first-year class is <a href="https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/705871/legacy-by-uche-blackstock-md/" title="https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/705871/legacy-by-uche-blackstock-md/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Legacy: A Black Physician Reckons with Racism in Medicine</a>, by ER physician and thought leader, Dr. Uché Blackstock. We warmly invite fellow students, faculty, staff, and alumnae/i across the university to join us for a reading and discussion of Legacy.Please join us for on Wednesday, October 22 for a talk, Q&amp;A, and book signing with Dr. Blackstock! This event is free and open to Simmons University students, alumnae/i, faculty, and staff. Paresky Conference Center, Main College Building, 300 Fenway</li></ul> This event is sponsored by the Division of Student Engagement, Success, and Diversity, the Provost's Office, the Dotson Bridge &amp; Mentoring Center, and the Simmons Library, and is made possible through a generous donation from Eileen Friars '72.About the Author<a href="https://ucheblackstock.com/" title="https://ucheblackstock.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr. Uché Blackstock</a> is a physician and thought leader on bias and racism in healthcare. She appears on air regularly as an MSNBC medical contributor and is the founder and CEO of Advancing Health Equity, as well as a former associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the former faculty director for recruitment, retention, and inclusion in the Office of Diversity Affairs at NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Blackstock received both her undergraduate and medical degrees from Harvard University, making her and her twin sister, Oni, the first Black mother-daughter legacies from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Blackstock currently lives in her hometown of Brooklyn, New York, with her two small children.
