We&#x27;re delighted to welcome Brian Broome and John Vercher for our first in store event at Squirrel Hill. &quot; Punch Me Up to the Gods feels like a gift. There will come a day when some Black child . . . will have read Broome&#x27;s masterwork and possibly commit to staying alive because of Broome&#x27;s words. They will tell him that Punch Me Up to the Gods is a testament to the insurgent and ineradicable power of Black queer being. That it reveals that Black queer men are our own best creations.&quot;--New York Times Book ReviewBRIAN BROOME is an award-winning writer, poet, and screenwriter, and K. Leroy Irvis Fellow and instructor in the Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh, where he is pursuing an MFA. He has been a finalist in The Moth storytelling competition and won the grand prize in Carnegie Mellon University&#x27;s Martin Luther King Writing Awards. He lives in Pittsburgh.John Vercher is a writer currently living in the Philadelphia area with his wife and two sons. He holds a Bachelor&#x27;s in English from the University of Pittsburgh and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Mountainview Master of Fine Arts program. His fiction has appeared on Akashic Books&#x27; Mondays are Murder and Fri-SciFi. and he is a contributing writer for Cognoscenti, the thoughts and opinions page of WBUR Boston. Two of his essays published there on race, identity, and parenting were picked up by NPR, and he has appeared on WBUR&#x27;s Weekend Edition. His non-fiction has also appeared in Entropy Magazine.
