UxI 2021 brings together experimental artists Chibueze Crouch x jose e. abad for an evening of performance + discussion honoring Source.

Join us for the abudance of embodied medicine that both Chibueze Crouch and jose e. abad offer through their performance-making and social practice in Yelamu aka San Francisco.Dive into the complexities of cultural identity and return to Source.Black is Source.Urban x Indigenous 2021: Between Worlds - a SAMMAY Production - is an intercultural arts festival taking place May 7-15, 2021. This community-centered exchange explores the liminal space between our worlds: past and present, physical and digital, material and spiritual. Artists, scholars, organizers, and community members will engage with these ideas through performances, dialogues, and workshops designed to inspire coalition building, collective healing, and re-indigenization.* Please email uxi.programs@gmail.com with your accessibility needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.Visit www.urbanxindigenous.com for updates and more info.- - -ABOUT THE PRESENTERSChibueze Crouch (she/her) is a Nigerian-American performance artist working across theater, movement, ritual masquerade, poetry, song and video based on Huichin, Chochenyo Ohlone territory (Oakland, CA). Her interdisciplinary practice explores the nuances of Afro-Diasporic longing, Igbo cosmology, constructions of queer identity, decolonial collaboration and creating what she calls spectacles of intimacy. She is an organizer in the QTBIPOC Performing Artist HIVE, a co-curator of East Bay emerging artist showcases with the Performance Primers, and a teaching artist &amp; company member in the Medea Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women &amp; HIV Circle. A recipient of the 2019-2020 RHE Foundation Artistic Fellowship, Chibueze has shared her work all across Ohlone land and outside Turtle Island, including at: CounterPulse, Theatre Bay Area, Stanford University, Trinidad Theatre Workshop, Yale University, Afro Urban Society, and the Black Choreographer&#x27;s Festival.Born in Olongapo City, Philippines, to a Filipinx mother and a West Indian father, jose e. abad uses dance and storytelling to explore the complexities of cultural identity, feelings of landlessness, and the memories and wisdom held within the body that the mind has forgotten and history has erased. They have performed in New York, New Orleans, and San Francisco in collaboration with a variety of companies and artists including Keith Hennessy, Scott Wells, Anne Bluethenthal, Brontez Purnell Dance Company, #DignityInProcess, and Detour Dance.- - -ABOUT URBAN X INDIGENOUSURBAN x INDIGENOUS (UxI) is an intercultural collective of artists, activists, healers, knowledge bearers, and culture keepers working to decolonize and re-indigenize in the global diaspora.
