This month’s Making Moves features local dance artist Courtney Collado’s new work, “our sheep to slaughter”, premiering May 13th.

On Thursday, May 13th, Making Moves will hold our first live performance of 2021. Local dance artist Courtney Collado has created a new work, our sheep to slaughter, in response to the ongoing conversation surrounding guns and gun violence. This work explores an American mother's anguish and journey as she grapples with the reality of gun violence in American schools and the realization that each morning she sends her child to school could be the last morning she sees her child alive. The work is concurrent to Collado’s thesis project as she works towards completion of her MFA at Hollins University. Warning: this piece, while not depicting graphic violence or firearm use, alludes to school violence and abuse of firearms. Please observe safe social distancing practices and wear a mask or face covering. This performance travels down a hill; please be prepared to follow the performance to the best of your ability. The performance will begin at 7:30pm and will run for approximately 20 minutes. Reservations are limited to 20 guests, please RSVP via the Eventbrite page. As always the performance is free, with contribution suggestions from the artist listed below.
