Learn the basics of molecular biology! We’ll cover fundamental concepts, techniques, and hot topics in the field.

Monday evenings from June 7th - July 26th, 6pm-8pm EDTInterested in learning more about how genes work, but don’t know where to start? This class will cover the basics of molecular biology. In this class, you’ll have the opportunity to have all your questions answered about how genes are maintained and expressed on a molecular level. You’ll also learn how these molecules are examined and manipulated in the lab. The first part of this course will be an introduction to the structures and functions of three major biological macromolecules: DNA, RNA and proteins. We will then discuss how these macromolecules are involved in the flow of genetic information and gene expression. At each stage, you’ll also be introduced to the laboratory techniques that are used to study these molecules.Each session, we’ll provide brief in-class summaries and lectures reviewing the assigned readings and videos at the beginning of each session, followed by discussion and Q&amp;A. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the readings and watch the videos before class and contribute to class discussions. Your registration gets you access to the live Zoom class, along with a recording of the class to view afterwards. All class materials will be hosted on Google Classroom.Note: This course is meant to cover the fundamental concepts of molecular biology. <h3>Meet the Instructor </h3>Shoily Khondker (she/her) has a PhD in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from CUNY Graduate Center where she studied how mitotic spindle dynamics are regulated by phosphatases. She is currently a postdoctoral associate at Rutgers University where she studies lipid metabolism.
