Join us as we hike on our preserves and share stories about the history and significance of the Escondido Creek watershed!

About Our Welcome to the Watershed Series-35th Anniversary Edition

Welcome hikers to the Escondido Creek watershed! Through this special anniversary hiking series, we invite the community to explore the lands we have protected together across the watershed for the last three and a half decades.

Traveling “ridge to reef,” the series begins on March 29, 2026, at Sardina Preserve, near Lake Wohlford. You won't want to miss our special guest speaker, Rick Halsey, founder and director of the Chaparral Institute. Rick will take hikers on a storytelling journey through the history of the watershed, the remarkable ecology of chaparral, and the importance of conserving natural spaces.

Monthly hikes will then continue west across the watershed, visiting each of our preserves along the way, from Sardina to Mountain Meadow, Bottle Peak to Frank’s Peak, and Keithley to LeoMar, and maybe others in between.

Hikes will generally take place on the first Saturday of each month (weather permitting). The series will conclude in December at a Conservancy location to be announced.

We hope you can join us! All are welcome to participate but children under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Sorry, pets are not permitted.

Note: Due to seasonal heat,Welcome to the Watershed hikes will pause from July through September.
