The Celebration of Champions is CFL’s annual event honoring individuals who have gone above and beyond in support of our community.

Please join us on Thursday, July 15, 2021, when we honor our 2021 Community Champions: Maxine and Gino Alberici. 
Maxine and Gino Alberici have made an incredible impact on the people of Cayuga County for the last six decades. 

Gino taught social studies at Port Byron High School for 34 years, while also coaching their football team to 13 league titles and 167 career wins in 32 seasons on the sideline. In his time at Port Byron, he affected thousands of young lives, teaching them the importance of hard work, perseverance, commitment, and faith. 

Maxine taught at Port Byron, Union Springs, and then Auburn High School for 16 years, working with thousands of students in her classes, running the daycare and early childhood education classes at the high school, and making sure every student in her classrooms worked to the best of their ability, with high expectations, while remaining compassionate and kind.

Together, they raised six children, who have gone on to raise, with their spouses, 17 grandchildren. 

Gino and Maxine are absolutely tireless in their commitment to this community, and have, since their retirements, served on dozens of boards and committees, volunteered their time at hundreds of events, and, most recently served, with their family, as the 2019 United Way Campaign Chairs (having also acted as the United Way Campaign Chairs in 2009). 

Gino served 9 years as a member of the Auburn Board of Education, two of those as president. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Neighborhood House, the United Way Campaign Retired Teachers Division, as the commissioner of Pony League, is a former member of the Owasco Fire Department, served on the Owasco Bicentennial Committee, the Sacred Heart Parish Council, the Friends of Hospice Board, the Board of Directors for the YMCA, was a town councilman for the Owasco Town Board, was a member of the Cayuga County Parks &amp; Trails Commission, and was a member of the Business Development Board of Tompkins Trust.

Maxine has volunteered and served on the boards for a long list of non-profit organizations, including Friends of Hospice, Champions for Life, the United Way, the Community Preservation Committee (Willard Chapel) as treasurer, the Auburn Historical and Cultural Sites Commission, the Founders Day Committee, the Sacred Heart Stewardship Committee, was a religious education teacher at Sacred Heart, served on the Board of Managers of the Faatz-Crofut Home, and more. 

The Albericis are just remarkable – and they continue to give their time, their talent, and their treasure. We are so honored to call them our 2021 Celebration of Champions Community Champions. Please join us on July 15, 2021, to celebrate these remarkable folks, and say thank you for all of the wonderful things they’ve done over the last sixty years of service to others.
