If you wish not to be included in the filming, please turn your camera off. Unusual physical abnormalities have captivated our imagination and sparked wonder for time immemorial. Whether they are studied to further understand genetics, or revered as mythology manifested, these anatomic anomalies have so many lessons to teach us. In this one of a kind event, you will get a behind the scenes look at the art and science of preserving these creatures. Join anatomist and collector Adam Hutter, and taxidermist Divya Anantharaman to engage with these curious creatures in a truly unique webinar! Our subject will be a variety of anomalies-animals born with extra heads, limbs, and other scientifically interesting maladies. Adam will be skinning an unusual specimen-it will be a surprise, since he is regularly contacted by veterinary and agricultural facilities who offer unviable creatures for his educational collection. He will also be sharing his comprehensive expertise about the animal's various afflictions. Divya will demonstrate the sculptural aspects of the taxidermy process, and the unique challenges involved in replicating creatures that do not follow traditional anatomic "rules". Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of these creatures, inside and out. We will engage in the artistic, practical, and scientific aspects of preservation. Both Adam and Divya will be able to answer questions about anatomic anomalies, taxidermy, and how the arts and sciences can harmonize to further our shared goal, conservation and education! Please note - The initial steps of taxidermy preparation involve revealing the inner anatomy of a specimen. Guests who may be sensitive to this are kindly asked to take this into consideration. Lifelong naturalist and artist Adam Hutter has been curating an astounding new exhibition of REAL FREAK ANIMALS. To reimagine the freakshows of old, he heads up a team of skilled artists and showcases these rare and wonderful specimens in a variety of ways, showcasing their uniqueness and explaining in depth the different maladies that occur. Join us as he prepares one of these specimens live and shows us just a few of the many unbelievable prepared specimens in his peculiar menagerie. An award winning licensed professional preserving birds and small mammals with honor and compassion for clients ranging from museums, designers, gallerists, and collectors. Her work seeks to combine the demonstrative aspect of scientific presentation with the symbolic, introspective nature of art, using taxidermy to engage diverse audiences with conservation. In addition to running her own business, she works at the esteemed studio of George Dante, which specializes in museum taxidermy and historic conservation. She was awarded 2019 Best of Category Professional Division for both Birds and Mammals at the New England Taxidermy Championships, won honors in the Professional division at the 2017 World Taxidermy Championships, and is the coauthor of the book "<a href="https://bookshop.org/books/stuffed-animals-a-modern-guide-to-taxidermy/9781581573329?aid=9119" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Stuffed Animals: A Modern Guide to Taxidermy</a>." She is passionately curious about the untapped potential of taxidermy.
