TheHumanitarian Disaster Institutewas founded in 2011 at Wheaton College and is the country’s first faith-based academic disaster research center. Our mission is to help the church prepare and care in a disaster-filled world. HDI carries out our mission through research, training, convening, and resourcing.The M.A. in Humanitarian & Disaster Leadership at Wheaton College Graduate School can be completed in one year on campus or two years online (which includes a week of on-campus coursework at the beginning and end of the program). We have also partnered with the School of Psychology, Counseling, and Family Therapy at Wheaton College Graduate School to offer a new Trauma Certificate in a specialized track specifically tailored to humanitarian and disaster responders. Evangelicals who get vaccinated against COVID-19 demonstrate our love of neighbors, care for the most vulnerable, and protect our own bodies. But a recent study shows that <a href="https://religionnews.com/2021/03/05/black-protestants-arent-least-likely-to-get-a-vaccine-white-evangelicals-are/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">white Evangelicals are less likely to get vaccinated</a> than most other groups in the United States. Join Humanitarian Disaster Institute Co-Directors Jamie Aten and Kent Annan on April 27 for an important conversation with Drs. Francis S. Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Timothy Dalrymple, President and CEO of Christianity Today, and Russell Moore, President of the Ethics &amp; Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.We are hosting this event to create space for Evangelical Christians to come together and discuss how to engage our neighbors in conversations about the COVID-19 vaccine. Collins</a> was appointed the 16th Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate. He was sworn in on August 17, 2009. In 2017, President Donald Trump asked Dr. Collins to continue to serve as the NIH Director. President Joe Biden did the same in 2021. Dr. Collins is the only Presidentially appointed NIH Director to serve more than one administration. In this role, Dr. Collins oversees the work of the largest supporter of biomedical research in the world, spanning the spectrum from basic to clinical research. Prior to accepting his current role at Christianity Today, he served in youth ministry, prison chaplaincy, and graduate and faculty ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
