<h3>Hosted by Impact Hub Houston in partnership with The City of Houston, the Houston Hackathon is an opportunity for people with different skills to collaborate on projects to improve life in our city.</h3>We’re currently recruiting volunteers, mentors, and organizers to help us plan and host this year’s Houston Hackathon, taking place this September. Whether you’ve participated in a hackathon before or are brand new to the experience, this session will walk you through everything you need to know to get involved from the organzing side of things!<h3>Why volunteer with the planning committee?</h3>Impact Hub Houston envisions a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable economy, where people are empowered with the skills, capacity, and resources they need to take action. We invite you to be a part of this vision by participating in this annual opportunity to develop systemic and transformative solutions for Houston – solutions that are rooted in local communities so that they are as diverse as Houston, and work for ALL of Houston.This is your opportunity to be part of a city wide initiative that brings together: developers, designers, writers, artists, marketers, students, educators, activists, community members, nonprofit leaders, entrepreneurs, product thinkers, data scientists, community organizers, policy experts, journalists, government representatives, and more!<h3>Who should attend the virtual interest + Q&amp;A session?</h3><ul><li>First-timers who want to learn how hackathons work</li><li>Seasoned changemakers looking to reconnect and lead the next wave of impact</li><li>Anyone passionate about collaborating on Houston’s challenges</li></ul><h3>What we’ll cover during the session:</h3><ul><li>What is hackathon and how does it work?</li><li>Houston Hackathon Overview</li><li>Volunteer roles and how you can contribute</li><li>How to sign up and get plugged into our organizing team</li></ul><h3>Volunteers Roles:</h3>Tech Support: Help manage tools like Discord, GitHub, DevPost, and ensure teams can troubleshoot quickly during the event.Sponsors + Logistics: Help us secure in-kind donations (food, swag, prizes), coordinate event day logistics, and support vendor needs.Community Outreach: Help spread the word! This might include reaching out to community organizations, student groups, and local networks.Mentors &amp; Experts: Advise project teams during the kick-off and through the Hackathon weekend.General Volunteers: Support participant check-ins, room setup, info desks, and other day of logistics.Don't think you have what it takes? That's simply not true.
