A music icon and self styled trouble-maker, Sona finds inspiration in the mystics and poets of India from prior centuries. Those who questioned the social order and whose voices have been reinterpreted and their rebellion covered to to suit the patriarchy.SHUT UP SONA resonates with every woman’s search for space in a culture ridden with millennia of misogyny. This is a film about music, art, social change, and a clashing of the ancient and the modern. Deepti is one of the founder members of IWCC, Indian Women Cinematographers Collective.This is her first feature documentary as director.
