The Japanese Contemporary Artists Team (JCAT) presents a rare and moving exhibition that brings together 73 artists from across Japan and beyond—each offering a raw and personal vision of contemporary Japanese expression under the theme “JAPANISM.” Spanning three weeks and three unique lineups (Team A, B, and C), the exhibition showcases 120 works ranging from calligraphy and mixed media to deeply introspective paintings. One interactive piece even invites audiences to co-create. Blending embroidery and paint, Meli breathes new life into tradition, transforming heritage into a shared source of beauty, meaning, and HOPE.

We are also honored to welcome a legendary pioneer: Zen Master and Calligrapher Taigen Kobayashi, 20th Abbot of Ōbai-in, Daitokuji Temple in Kyoto, whose timeless vision helped shape JAPANISM. He will share his enduring perspective on the future of Japanese art and culture.<h3>\\ ☆LIVE INK PAINTING ☆//</h3><h3>Performance by Masako Nunokawa</h3>Title: Form of a PrayerAbstract ink paintings reveal the process of soul purification on washi paper. When emotions beyond words are transformed, they become a silent prayer. The flow of water guides the ink, giving shape to the work.

<h3>\\ ☆ GUEST ARTIST (a representative) scheduled to attend ☆//</h3>Taigen Kobayashi, Zen Master and Calligrapher / 20th Abbot of Ōbai-in, Daitokuji, KyotoBorn in 1938, Taigen Kobayashi lost his parents at six and became a monk early in life. After graduating from Hanazono University, he trained under Zen Master Rekkō Ōtsu at the Rinzai sect’s Shōkokuji.In 1975, he became the 20th abbot of Ōbai-in, a sub-temple of Daitokuji in Kyoto, and restored its buildings and gardens. Founded during the Sengoku period, the temple was dedicated to Oda Nobunaga, and its garden was designed by Sen no Rikyū, creating a space where Zen and tea culture merge.Kobayashi is celebrated both in Japan and internationally for sharing the essence of Zen through his calligraphy.
