The Intersection of Sex & Race for Parents: A three-week mini-series

Marching In Your Living Room was inspired by the extensive social justice work that Holistic Resistance has done over the last 10 years with white communities. We realize that there is a deep need for families to be supported in thinking and strategizing on how to facilitate conversations within homes on the subjects of racial justice and sex education awareness. Sex education and racism have historically been taught as separate subjects. Marching In Your Living Room invites parents to notice that these are not separate topics in America. We have created a six week intensive program that looks at how racism and sex education have historically been used to oppress African heritage people, as well as three week and one-day options.Although books and websites are powerful resources, Holistic Resistance believes that there is an importance in the building of a village. Taking on these big topics with the support of both black and white people while asking questions can all be done with the intention of healing and connection while not leaning into shaming and blaming each other. With a focus on staying creative when taking on the insurmountable task of shaping the future of the world, Marching In Your Living Room is clear that parents shape the world we live in. Join a supportive group to parents to interrupt the unspoken harm in our culture around sexuality and racism for the next generation.

3 Week Mini-Series with Aaron Johnson &amp; Grace BryantMondays – April 5, 12 &amp; 19, 6-8pmThis three-week mini-series is focused on white parents unpacking the culture of sexuality and race they were raised with. Our curiosity-based classes will offer a balanced awareness of your own sexuality and the culture you are bringing to your children. Our intention is to become aware of the positionality of your sexuality, historically and culturally, as well as the default narratives that have shaped your unconscious beliefs. Examining and questioning these default narratives will empower you to interrupt the often unspoken harm in our culture around sexuality and racism for the next generation. This program is for white parents. Each week we will wrestle with one or two questions together. This is just the beginning of the journey...each question has potentially 20 questions additionally that could come up as we unpack each question each week.Supporting each other as parentsIt is easy for us to judge each other and ourselves as parents, to critique each other rather than build each other up...and in turn we critique ourselves. In this group we will offer a contradiction to the constant judgment that parents are under and encourage parents to create and hone their own content for their children. We are here to think with you, not to criticize you.Why sex education? Sex education and anti-racism are two often ignored aspects of parenting for white parents, but are also the two areas that most likely will impact children of color in your child&#x27;s present and future. When we connect over difficult topics like anti-racism in sex education for our children, it ripples out into other parts of our parenting plans, and benefits our anti-racism thinking for us and our family. Questions and topics we might explore:Week 1: •	What is positionality and how does it determine our parenting and perspectives?•	Who created the value of sex &amp; sexuality in your childhood? Week 2: •	Who curated the culture of our sexuality?•	Who curated our beliefs around race? •	What images, videos or media have scripted our beliefs in sexuality and race?Week 3: •	The violent intersections of sex &amp; race – the lynching of Black bodies in America•	“The Black Brute” portrayal •	Who controls the Black penis?
