“….and before I be a slave,I’ll be Buried in my grave.And go home to my Lord,And be free!”Freedom seekers escaping enslavement from the inhumane slave plantations in the south between the 1830’s and the civil war passed through Chicago’s far southern suburbs and Chicago on their journey to self-emancipation. These brave freedom seekers chose to face hardships and even death, either alone, or with their family, to escape the dehumanization of slavery. Many of these freedom seekers relied on hidden safe houses and churches that were owned by men and women who were motivated by moral, religious and political reasons.  The Underground Railroad tour will include lectures, demonstrations and presentations and a bus tour to selected sites. One site to be visited is Quinn Chapel AME church. Quinn Chapel was an Underground Railroad stop in Chicago.This exciting and educational tour will be five hours and includes lunch.Conductor: Dr. Earnest Webb, Ph.D. LCSW. Dr. Webb has led over thirty tours to Ghana West Africa.  He has also organized and lead a tour of the Underground Railroad route starting from Chicago IL and ending in Africa Town, AL (Mobile). Dr. Webb has a Ph.D. in Psychology and an MSW and has been in clinical private practice for 27 years.
