Hear from a panel of experienced muralists what every artist should know before taking on a mural project.

<h3>ArtSpan presents a "round table" discussion with 6 outstanding Bay Area muralists moderated by Artist Services Manager, Dianne Hoffman.   These artists have been selected to discuss their personal  experiences and share helpful insights as professional muralists. </h3><p>Topics for discussion include:</p><p> -How did you come to learn the trade? (Training, Supplies, Contacts)</p><p> -What advice for aspiring muralists can you offer for getting started?  (Resume, References, etc)</p><p> -How do you determine your fee(s)?</p><p> -Information about establishing contracts and required permits?</p><p> -Firsthand insider tips?  (Personal accounts that may have taught you valuable lessons)</p><p>-Safety risks and precautions?</p><p> -Opportunities with mural festivals, residencies and other avenues to locate mural gigs?  </p><h3> Meet our Muralists Panel:</h3><p><a href="http://www.konorebi.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nora Bruhn</a> is a self-taught artist.  She initially painted in a large spectrum of styles, meeting the needs of many clients.   Now, she is known for her large-scale floral murals.  </p><p> <a href="http://www.nathanrichardphelps.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nathan Phelps</a> has been creating art for 20 years. Living in San Francisco for 15 of those years, he was never able to make enough money selling canvases to live full time off his art. Making murals has been a way for Nathan to commit fully to the life he wants to live and he has since seen notable success. </p><p><a href="http://ladyhenzeart.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lady Henze</a>  has been painting murals for three years typically with spray paint as well as latex and acrylic. She has painted approximately 40 murals to date, the longest single project being 60' and the highest vertical 40'.  She loves to paint public art, but also has private murals in many neighborhoods in SF, Oakland, Colorado, Minnesota and North Carolina. The past year she has worked on several collaborations that have expanded her style and skill set. </p><p><a href="http://www.talavera-ballon.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Claudio Talavera-Ballon</a> is a San Francisco-based visual artist from Perú with over 20 years of experience working primarily as an oil painter and muralist. His paintings have portrayed migrant workers, as well as migrating species venerated by the indigenous peoples. In urban settings of the Bay Area and in community centers in Oaxaca, Mexico, his murals recount history and depict native wildlife species. </p><p><a href="http://www.PaintTheVoid.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Inga Bard</a> is a Ukrainian-American contemporary Renaissance painter, muralist and founder of Art for Civil Discourse, a public arts non-profit. She has been painting murals across the United States and Europe since 2010. In 2020 she co-founded Paint the Void (PtV), a nonprofit born out of the pandemic that raises funds to pay artists for safeguarding hope and beauty in the wake of COVID-19. Since it's conception in April 2020, PtV has curated and project managed 140 murals by over 1430 artists, most on the plywood of boarded up storefronts, across San Francisco and East Bay.</p><p>J<a href="https://undersong.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">oshua Coffy</a> is a self-taught artist living and working in San Francisco.  He draws inspiration for his paintings and murals from the natural world, scientific illustrations, his love of animals and how humans relate to the birds and mammals.  Josh’s first public space work was a 6,000 square foot mural titled “Birdsong” commissioned in 2015 by Build Inc. at the corner of Market and Van Ness Avenue on the Journal Building where ArtSpan’s studio residency program is housed. Since then he has created murals for schools, private homes and business throughout the Bay Area as well as at the Reno Mural Expo.</p><p>About <a href="https://www.artspan.org/artists/workshops" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ArtSpan Artist Workshops</a>: ArtSpan presents monthly 90-minute workshops designed to sharpen business and financial literacy for professional artists, prepare artists for exhibiting work inside and outside the studio, and encourage community between fellow artists and the public. Through these educational events ArtSpan creates a platform for artists to thrive, fostering a Bay Area that values the arts.</p><h3>Workshops are free to attend for <a href="https://www.artspan.org/artists/artist-membership" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ArtSpan Artists Members</a>.
