MyPlate for My Family: A Nutrition Series for Parents, Educators and Kids

Making a DifferenceThe Community is our Classroom. This signifies that our teaching is deeply rooted not only in solid theoretical foundations but also in the rich knowledge drawn from the community and region by the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES). We offer various research programs through the Water Resources Institute and the 143-acre Firebird Research Farm in Beltsville, MD. CAUSES offers community outreach programs for all ages. Our community education programs through our land-grant centers are: (1) The Center for Urban Agriculture & Gardening Education, (2) The Center for Urban Resilience, Innovation and Infrastructure which includes the Water Resources Research Institute, and (3) The Center for Nutrition Diet & Health which includes the Institute of Gerontology and Snap-Ed. In addition, the college provides innovative academic programs in urban architecture and community development, urban sustainability, health education, nursing, and nutrition and dietetics.

Making healthy choices for your family is one way to show how much you care. Attend fun, interactive classes where you can meet other parents who are making healthy changes in their lives. Find new ways to save money and time when buying food and making meals. Be inspired as you learn ways to be more active. During the classes, you can learn tips to:•	Fix MyPlate family meals to stretch your food dollar•	Get the right amount of food and physical activity•	Serve fruits and vegetables that kids will enjoy•	Make family time active and funThis virtual class will include an information piece and a cooking demonstration each week! With nutrition educators, you can discover ways to plan meals and eat well throughout the week. They can offer great ideas to help you use your SNAP benefits. Build new skills with educators who are excited to work with you. Put new ideas into practice. During a MyPlate for My Family class, you will get handouts and recipes to help you make small changes. You and your family can create new habits as you try these ideas and recipes at home.
