Jarrod Lee, bass-baritone, has received rave reviews for his “effortless acting” and “vocally assured” performances from Broadway World, MD Theater, Opera News, Opera Today, and The Washington Post. Recently, Lee was a featured soloist in the Metropolitan Opera’s Grammy Award-winning 2019 production of Porgy and Bess and in productions at Washington National Opera, including Candide, Dead Man Walking, Lost in the Stars, and Apammottox. He has also appeared with the In Series, Baltimore Concert Opera, and Annapolis Opera, as well as solo performances in Renée Fleming’s American Voices at the Kennedy Center and visits by President Barack Obama and elected dignitaries to the historic Metropolitan A.M.E Church in D.C.

Shana Oshiro is a soprano specializing in art song, spirituals, and sacred music – as well as theatre, jazz, rock bands, and the award-winning barbershop quartet, HALO. Oshiro has appeared with Opera Philadelphia in productions of Porgy and Bess and Margaret Garner and made several appearances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as a featured ensemble member, as well as multiple local orchestras and chorales in the DC Metropolitan area. Oshiro is also a published author, whose text for “Taking Names,” set to music by composer Jasmine Barnes, was highlighted by the Philadelphia Inquirer as the program’s “great creative stroke” of #SayTheirNames, a musical film developed by soprano Karen Slack celebrating women who have been a catalyst for social change.

Dr. Lester Green has extensive credits as a multi-disciplinary musician, pedagogue, and vocal coach, and has performed at the Kennedy Center, Washington National Opera, the Colour of Music Festival, and Aspen Music Festival. Green currently serves as a member of the voice faculty at the Peabody Institute, the University of Maryland School of Music, College Park, and Morgan State University. Green has served as CAAPA’s Artistic Director since September 2014, since 2018 has served on the music education team of the Children’s Chorus of Washington, and in 2020, joined Alexandria Symphony Orchestra as Artistic Advisor. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Green has remained active as an educator and recording artist, including a concert in March 2021 with acclaimed mezzo-soprano, J’Nai Bridges, in interpretations of works by German, Austrian, Spanish and American composers, highlighting Green’s own poetry and compositions as well, as presented by Washington Performing Arts.

CAAPA Founder Pamela Simonson is a soprano, actress, and teacher who has been seen in performances with the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Chicago Opera, the Washington National Opera in productions including “Cosi fan tutte”, “Porgy and Bess”, “Lucia di Lammermoor”, “Tosca” and more, as well as on stages for national and international audiences. She is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Manhattan School of Music. Pamela serves as the CAAPA Chairperson of the Board of Directors.

Shawna J. Williams received the majority of her training at The Russell School of Ballet, home of the Fairfax Ballet in Chantilly, VA and subsequently received a BFA in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as workshops and summer programs with prominent artists such as The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Suzanne Farrell, Nicholas Leichter, Ronald K. Brown, and Gus Solomons, to name a few. On a number of occasions, she has also participated in the annual Black College Dance Exchange and the International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference. She currently serves as Education Program Manager.

Classical Movements will take precautions to limit the risk as much as within our power and requests the cooperation of the audience in these preventative measures, so that we can again enjoy live music and support musicians in our community. Audience members are required to wear masks, as will staff and musicians when not performing. Due to COVID, guests are strongly encouraged to avoid using public restrooms. If needed, restrooms will be available upon request. Please note: Seating will be provided for concerts, with chairs wiped down and disinfected between performances. Chairs will have at least six feet between individual or family pairs.
