Hillsborough Township Earth Day Litter Cleanup:  - April 24, 2021

Please join us for Hillsborough Township's Earth Day Cleanup.The purpose of this event is to provide a litter cleanup event for Earth Day. We also ask that you make a personal pledge to do one thing that will impact the earth in a positive way! This could be as simple as, not using plastic, planting a tree or picking up 10 pieces of litter each week. The Earth is our home and it is one thing we all have in common! Let's work together to make it a better place for future generations.Thank you for your interest and in making a difference!!Registration:Register on EventBrite (here).Waivers:Volunteers must complete the waivers to participate. Please send completed waivers to dpw@hillsborough-nj.org before you head out to cleanup. <ul><li>Volunteers under age 18 must have a parent signature. </li></ul><ul><li>Waivers can be found <a href="https://www.hillsborough-nj.org/media/attachments/2020/04/13/hillsborough-township-clean-communities-waivers.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a>. Please print, complete and bring with you on the day of the event or email to dpw@hillsborough-nj.org , if the event is virtual .</li></ul>Location of Event:This event can be completed at a township park, roadside, open space, stream, or anywhere you find litter.If you need a suggestion for a cleanup, please contact dpw@hillsborough-nj.org.Other Litter Cleanup Events:Additional dates for 2021 Litter Cleanup Events are:<ul><li>Earth Day Litter Cleanup - April 24th</li><li>Litter Awareness Day - Weekend of May 15th</li><li>Plogging Day - June 12th</li><li>National, World &amp; Local Litter Cleanup - Sept 18th</li><li>LITTERCON - November 13th</li></ul>Follow us on facebook: @HillsboroughCleanCommunitiesProgram Safety Information:All cleanups must be conducted on Hillsborough Township property or along an approved roadway.Each volunteer is responsible for transportation to and from the designated cleanup site.Volunteers MUST wear long pants and work boots or sneakers, even though it may be warm outside. You may bring gardening or work gloves if you prefer to use them over the rubber gloves that are provided.Bring plenty of water. It can get warm and it is important to stay hydrated.All recyclable items should be sorted and put into separate clear bags for recycling.Bags will be provided.A safety session with all participants on the day of the cleanup and go over safety procedures and distribute tools and safety equipment.DO NOT handle or pick up anything that: looks dangerous; looks like hazardous materials; looks unsafe or is an unknown substance. When such an item is located, take a photo and contact the Hillsborough Township Clean Communities Program Manager OR site coordinator, indicating the location and what was found.Volunteers should use the bathroom prior to the start of the cleanup. There may not be any facilities close to the clean up site.Volunteers should be on the lookout for insects and animal nests and try to avoid them.If working roadside, BE ALERT to oncoming traffic and have several people monitoring traffic conditions. Make sure there are cleanup signs to alert the oncoming traffic of the clean up activity.If conditions are not safe, DO NOT perform cleanup and contact the event coordinator and/or Hillsborough Township Clean Communities Program Manager.Volunteers are encouraged to bring a camera to take photos during the event. We ask that photos are provided to us for use in our newsletters and website. Your photos may also be used online and in local papers. Participants must also sign a photo waiver online when registering.We ask the youth volunteers to write about their experience and/or draw a picture. All submissions can be sent to the Hillsborough Township Department of Public Works, ATTN: Clean Communities Program Manager, 379 South Branch Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844, or can be emailed to dpw@hillsborough-nj.org.We appreciate feedback and may include quotes or written material from participants into our program.
