Don't miss the tribute to journalist and thinker Barbara Probst Solomon, a key figure in the cultural dialogue between Spain and the U.S.Join us for a screening of the documentary When the War Was Over. The evening will also feature a roundtable discussion with leading voices in journalism and thought, and a special video message from Nicolás Sánchez Albornoz.A unique event celebrating the life and legacy of an extraordinary woman.Barbara Probst Solomon (1928–2019) was a fiercely independent voice in American letters—novelist, essayist, journalist, and documentarian—whose life and work bridged continents and causes. After a privileged New York City upbringing, she got herself to Paris just after World War II and joined the underground struggle against Franco’s regime, eventually becoming a key figure in the resistance. After Franco’s death she became a frequent contributor to both Spanish and U.S. media publications, including El País, Cambio 16, The New York Times, The New Republic, and The New Yorker—where her unique amalgam of journalistic observation, incisive cosmopolitan sensibility, and vividly personal voice bridged a gap of cultural perspective between the two countries, rooted in Spain’s years of political isolation.
