Join us on Wednesday April 14 at 630 pm for a live webinar featuring Toby Smithson MS, RDN, LD, CDCES, FAND presenting: Diabetes Remission from Plant Based Eating, Is this a Reality or Fallacy? Ms Smithson will address the science and definitions behind the frequently referenced terms of remission, reversible or curable diabetes. Plant-based eating patterns will be discussed as they relate to the microbiome and nutritional factors effecting insulin resistance and beta cell function of people diagnosed with diabetes. Information presented will equip registered dietitians with talking tracks for diabetes management. Objectives: Participants will be able to describe the nutritional factors involved in insulin resistance and beta cell dysfunction, dysfunction). Participants will be able to identify key nutrients and vitamin opportunities to emphasize in their counseling session. Participants will be able to provide counseling to patients with diabetes on an evidence-based plant-based eating plan. Earn 1.0 CPEU About Toby Smithson, MS, RDN, LD, CDCES, FAND Toby dynamically combines her knowledge as a certified diabetes care and education specialist and registered dietitian nutritionist with her life experiences successfully managing type 1 diabetes for more than five decades and has followed a plant-based eating plan for most of her life. She received the Diabetes Educator of the Year award from the Diabetes Dietetic Practice Group in 2020 and recently received the 2021 Alumni Achievement Award for her accomplishments since grad school. Toby has a YouTube channel http://bit.ly/DiabetesEveryDay with the goal to get credible information about diabetes management in the YouTube space. Toby is the author of Diabetes Meal Planning and Nutrition for Dummies. She also writes about diabetes for online media for US News and World Report and Type2Diabetes.com and is formerly an AND and ADCES media spokesperson.
