Introduction to QGIS (July 1st)

The mission of the Stanford Geospatial Center is to support the use of geospatial data and technologies in research teaching at Stanford University, whatever that means at any given moment. Our goal is to provide expert instruction, consulting and data services to the Stanford University research community. As a part of the Stanfod University Library system, The Stanford Geospatial Center serves the entirety of the Stanford University community, without regard to departmental affiliation or status, and our services are open to any Stanford University affiliate with current library circulation privileges.

Introduction to QGISThis introductory workshop will focus on the fundamental concepts and skills needed to begin using Geographic Information Systems software for the exploration and analysis of spatial data using the open source GIS package QGIS.Topics covered:What is a GIS?Spatial Data Models and FormatsProjections and Coordinate SystemsBasic Data ManagementThe QGIS User InterfaceBasic Analysis and Map ConstructionRequired: Attendees MUST have a laptop in order to follow along with workshop exercises.
