Leaders: Jason Sullivan, Josh Rothman, and Amy Wish With the promise of a new school year, the Elementary STEM Lab Team is excited to offer a professional learning experience focused on jumpstarting what is (hopefully) your return to full time, in-person instruction. This three-part workshop will start off with a focus on strategies for using student relevant phenomena to launch a unit. You will learn ways to ignite excitement for the topic while also uncovering student ideas about content and cross cutting concepts that can be used to drive how you facilitate your lessons. In the second session you will add to your toolbox of instructional strategies for directly engaging students in the Science and Engineering Practices as well as integrating cross curricular skills to boost deeper learning and the application of STEM. The final session will highlight strategies for making student thinking visible and sustaining productive, student-centered conversations. The goal of the Elementary STEM Lab is for each participant to walk away with a revised launch to a unit of study they will be teaching this year, instructional strategies for engaging students in experimentation, data analysis, research and student centered discussions, as well as lesson ideas to energize your teaching. All sessions will run virtually from 9A-12P (synchronously) followed by a flexible consultation and coaching time to support your individual questions and professional learning goals.
