Dr. Louise Aronson, Author of NYTimes bestseller and Pulitzer Prize Finalist “Elderhood: Redefining Aging, Transforming Medicine, Reimagining Life”, will present the 24th Annual - and first ever virtual - Douglas West Endowed Memorial Lecture for the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Mount Sinai. We hope that you will join us on Tuesday, May 4th at 5:30 PM EST as Dr. Aronson discusses “life’s third act” in ways both revolutionary and revelatory.In 1996, Susan West established this endowed visiting lectureship in memory of her late husband, Douglas West, and in honor of his physician, Dr. Diane E. Meier. The West Lectures address key issues faced by patients and families in the setting of serious illness. Past lecturers included distinguished medical experts such as Dame Cecily Saunders (founder of the modern hospice movement) and Robert N. Butler (“father of U.S. Geriatrics&quot;); persons and their loved ones living with serious illness such as Amy Berman (senior program officer at the John A. Hartford Foundation) and Lucy Kalanithi (widow of author Paul Kalanithi); and medical writers such as Dr. Siddartha Mukherjee (“The Emperor of All Maladies”) and Atul Gwande (“Being Mortal”).
