Our vision is to have a world where all children are given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Washington County is the second most populated Oregon county.  When it comes to academic performance, emotional development, and preparation for employment, County kids are missing out. WCK is the only county-wide coordinator serving afterschool and summer OST programs and is also a liaison to the county’s early learning hub. WCK facilitates networking, educational opportunities, the sharing of best practices, and fostering collaboration among providers. This session: Tuesday, April 13Positive Discussions when Dealing with Differences: Taking A Closer Look at Identity Factors That Impact Kids &amp; the Family -- Jocelyn Chavez, Sequoia Mental Health ServicesDescription: This presentation focuses on how to guide parents through experiences with cultural differences and discrimination with children in the school and home environment. Topics include differences between child and parent, such as with blended families, differences between kids at school, and overall fostering acceptance and tolerance across all spaces. This presentation aims to identify means of support for both the child and the family.<a href="https://washingtoncountykids.org/event/parent-speaker-series/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WCK Parent Speaker Series </a>are presentations designed to provide useful information, tips, and tools for parents/guardians of children K-8.Each one-hour session begins with an informative and informal presentation by our professional speakers and allows adequate time for participants to ask questions.<ul><li>Sessions are provided at no cost to registered participants</li><li>Sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays from 6-7:00 PM PST (session recordings will be available)</li></ul>Presenter bio: Jocelyn Chavez (she/her/hers) obtained her Master’s in Applied Psychological Science from Pacific University in Summer of 2020 and is currently working as a Clinical Case Coordinator at Sequoia Mental Health Services in Aloha, Oregon. Currently working towards her licensure as a Psychologist Associate, Jocelyn specializes in trauma, depression, and anxiety with a focus on culturally diverse clients belonging to racially or sexually marginalized communities. Jocelyn identifies as White Hispanic and previously lived in New Mexico with her mixed-race family for a large portion of her life until moving to the Pacific Northwest to pursue graduate school.
