The Elkhart County Suicide Prevention Coalition strives to educate the community about mental illness and lessen the prevalence of suicide.

Join us to learn about the signs and symptoms of mental distress in youth.

Ivy Tech Community College

Participants who successfully complete the training will become certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. **This course is &quot;blended&quot;. You will be required to complete a 2 hour self-paced training PRIOR to attending the in-person portion of the course. All necessary links and materials will be provided for you.You will learn:-That the peak age of onset for mental illness is early adolescence.-The unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents.-The importance of intervention.-How to help a youth who is experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.-A 5-step action plan to assist an adolescent in crisis or an adolescent that is exhibiting the signs and symptoms of mental illness.-Resources available to help adolescents with a mental health problem.
