Conversation on Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Virtual or In-Person)

Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation provides facilities, programs and recreational opportunities for the community that contribute to an aesthetically pleasing environment and enhanced quality of life. The department maintains 221 parks, 12,242 acres of parkland, 158 miles of trails and bikeways, 29 lakes, hundreds of athletic fields and tennis courts, 103 playgrounds, and five public golf courses.  Miles of scenic boulevards and parkways crisscross the city, where 48 fountains and 122 monuments and sculptures surprise and delight. Ten community centers, along with eight museums, provide the setting for socially equitable and community-driven programming.

The KC Parks Board of is offering opportunities for the Community to join in the Conversation on honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Mayor Quinton Lucas directed the KC Parks Board of Commissioners to gather public input on how to honor King’s legacy. So far, there have been hundreds of great ideas submitted in print and emails, but we would like to get some more public engagement on the topic with breakout sessions for participants. We are encouraged by the collective energy and attention put forth by our community, to ultimately create a more equitable &amp; robust conversation towards unity in our beloved city.
