Exhibition Talk: George Eastman in 1921

The George Eastman Museum is located in Rochester, New York, on the estate of George Eastman, the pioneer of popular photography and motion picture film. Founded in 1947 as an independent nonprofit institution, it is the world’s oldest photography museum and one of the oldest film archives. The museum holds unparalleled collections—encompassing several million objects—in the fields of photography, cinema, and photographic and cinematographic technology, and photographically illustrated books. The institution is also a longtime leader in film preservation and photographic conservation.

In this annual lecture on George Eastman’s life one hundred years ago, Legacy Collection Archivist Jesse Peers will explore what George Eastman and Eastman Kodak Company were up to in 1921 through a slideshow of related objects and historic documents. Topics include a long-running lawsuit between the US government and Kodak, the company’s founding of Eastman Savings &amp; Loan and introduction of the Kodak Picture Spots campaign, as well as Eastman’s involvement in Rochester’s government, economy, healthcare, and arts and culture.This virtual program coincides with the exhibition One Hundred Years Ago: George Eastman in 1921, on view in the Sitting Room through the end of the year.Free to members; $10 suggested for nonmembers. Instead, we are asking nonmembers to pay what you can, with a suggested price of $10.Refund Policy: The museum offers refunds for all virtual programs up to 48 hours before the event. Tickets are transferable to another attendee up to 12 hours before the event.Suggested or other donations are non-refundable. The museum is not responsible for outages, technical issues, and issues with connectivity experienced by the attendee. All attendees will receive a link to a video recording of the event regardless of whether they are able to attend the event live. In the case where the museum is unable to do the event due to technical issues, all tickets will be refunded or the event will be rescheduled.
