Grand Haven Sand Sculpture Contest

Spend your Saturday, the day before Fathers' Day, on the shores of Grand Haven for the annual Sand Sculpture Contest, a creative, family-friendly tradition for all ages.

Participants will have from 10am to 12pm (short competition-2hrs) or 10am to 2pm (long competition -4hrs) to design and build their sand sculpture. Create anything from castles to creatures to abstract art! Work individually or in teams of friends, family, or coworkers.

Once time is up, a panel of local judges will review each sculpture and select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category: Individual, Group, and Youth Group (12 and under).

Spectators can also vote for their favorite creation in the People’s Choice Award.

Winners will be announced shortly after judging, with prizes awarded to the top sculptors. Whether you're building or just enjoying the beach vibes, this event promises a day of creativity, competition, and summer fun.

This year's contest will feature Sand Pirate Janet Schrader, who will share tips and tricks and serve as judge for our short competition, and the pro team from Sand Fanatics, led by Paul Speulstra, will construct a large-scale exhibition sculpture.

Storm the Castle! As the competition wraps up, sculptors and spectators alike will be invited to storm the castle, as we deconstruct our giant exhibition build. What fun!

Pre-registered teams will need to arrive and check in at 9am.

'Day-of' registration will open at 8:30am and close at 9:30am.

Please note: This is a rain-or-shine event. In case of more serious inclement weather, a delayed start is an option and will be communicated to the team captains the night before. The event will be canceled if dangerous lightning is present and persistent. Registration fees are non-refundable. Come prepared and dress for whatever Michigan weather throws our way!
