Join us as we wrap up this year's convening with a closing keynote from Germaine Ingram! 

Now as much as ever, radical gathering spaces for rumination on Black freedoms are crucial. From February 23 - 27, 2021, Black Spatial Relics (BSR) is hosting its second annual convening. Building on our work to create Black spaces for creation, exploration, and community, this will be a free and virtual convening that will feature our 2020 artists-in-residence and several other Black performance makers and scholars from around Philadelphia and beyond.Join us with a closing keynote by Germaine Ingram, and join Black Spatial Relics for closing remarks, with a closing offering by Viktor Ewing Givens. About the Keynote Speaker: <ul><li>Germaine Ingram has dedicated a half-century of work in law, public service, performing arts, and arts/cultural strategy and production. In addition to 30 years in legal practice and law teaching, her career in arts and culture, spanning more than 25 years, includes dance and vocal performance, choreography, oral history, writing, filmmaking, and arts/culture strategy at the intersection of art and social change. Recent projects include a 2+ year exploration of the history and evolution of Yoruba-rooted performative and spiritual practices in Philadelphia since the mid-20th Century, and a creative/performance homage to the collective genius among jazz innovators in North Philadelphia in the 1950s-70s. She is currently researching the life and legacy of Louise Madison (1911-1971), a tap dancer of extraordinary artistic prowess who was denied the recognition she was owed. Her work has been supported by the NEA, The Pew Center for Arts &amp; Humanities, the Independence, Leeway, Lomax Family, and Wyncote Foundations, and the Pennsylvania Councils on the Arts and the Humanities. Among other awards, she was a 2010 Pew Fellow in the Arts, Leeway Foundation Transformation awardee, and a 2014 resident fellow at the Sacatar Institute in Itaparica, Bahia, Brazil. </li></ul>About the Presenter: <ul><li>Viktor le Givens is a Creative thought thinker... memory worker and keeper of the archive from Houston, Texas. Givens is currently, stewarding a land-based artist residency in rural east Texas where practitioners of various media will be afforded the time and space to commune with the natural and sociocultural landscape of the rural south as a method of generating new creative works.</li></ul>Project support provided by Added Velocity which is administered by Temple Contemporary at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University and funded by the William Penn Foundation. Black Spatial Relics is a national residency program, founded and directed by Arielle Julia Brown. The Black Spatial Relics Residency is made possible with support from the JKW Foundation, Velocity Fund, Monument Lab, and independent donors.
