COGdesign presents a Tour of the Rose Kennedy Greenway

COGdesign

Join us for a tour of the rich diversity of trees, shrubs and blooms that make up the Greenway, a fundraising event to benefit COGdesign.

Rose Kennedy Greenway

Led by Senior Horticulturist and Designer Darrah Cole, we will tour the gardens of the Wharf District, with their focus on plants native to North America, visit the beehives and newly constructed meadow, and end at the lovely cultivated gardens of the North End. You will learn about the history of the gardens and the efforts the Greenway is making to create sustainable and healthy ecosystems in their landscapes. Due to COVID restrictions, the tour will be limited to 20 participants so that physical distancing can be maintained. Masks are required during the tour. The tour will meet at the Trillium Beer Garden near Rowes Wharf at 10 am and last 2 hours. Rowes Wharf is a short walk from both the Aquarium and South Station T stations. In 1991, construction began in Boston on the Big Dig, a massive public works project that removed a forty year old elevated highway that cut the city off from its waterfront. In its place, the city built the Rose Kennedy Greenway, a public park that includes gardens, tree-lined promenades, plazas, fountains, and art and attracts millions of visitors each year. COGdesign provides pro bono landscape design services to help low income communities in greater Boston create beautiful, resilient green spaces that benefit their neighborhoods. In collaboration with under-resourced community groups, our volunteer designers provide THE essential tool in bringing a park to fruition: a drawing with a cost estimate and maintenance plan. Addressing environmental justice, climate resilience and local food security, COG continues to take on vital, community-initiated projects and to deliver schematic drawings that reflect neighborhood vision.Proceeds from this fundraiser will help us to promote equitable access for all people to well designed, sustainable neighborhood green spaces. A percentage of proceeds will also go to the Greenway Conservancy, the non profit that manages all aspects of the parks, including horticulture, programming, public art, maintenance, and capital improvements.https://cogdesign.orghttps://www.rosekennedygreenway.org
