Stronger Together COLLAGE WORKSHOPSaturday, July 19th1:00 - 3:00 pmFacilitated by: Edwin G. Cadiz, Assistant: Dr. Sharon M. CadizLocation: The Children's Art CarnivalAll ages (children must be accompanied by an adult; no drop off)Join dynamic husband-and-wife duo, Edwin and Dr. Sharon M. Cadiz, for a vibrant image compositing workshop! Master collage artist Edwin Cadiz will guide participants through both the fundamentals and more advanced collage techniques using an array of bold, beautiful, and colorful materials. Creative fun for all ages and experience levels!

About the facilitators:Edwin G. Cadiz Edwin G. Cadiz is a Puerto Rican multimedia visual artist and educator with a Master’s in Science of Education and a BFA. Known for his vibrant collages and paintings, his work explores cultural heritage, history, and humanity’s pursuit of peace. His art has been exhibited in New York City and Latin America and can be found in libraries, community spaces, and private collections.Cadiz’s early training at Henry Street Settlement shaped his artistic and community-focused approach, contributing to lasting public mosaics in NYC. He has created over 50 collages on Black History and has taught art at numerous institutions, including the Children’s Art Carnival and Queens College. His public commissions include a "Tropicow" for NYC's CowParade and murals with students and community groups across the city.

Dr. Sharon M. Cadiz – Dr. Cadiz is an educator, writer and national speaker with a record of professional engagement that spans four decades. She is a fierce advocate for social justice and human rights, as well a recognized authority on interpersonal trauma and its impact as a root cause of many issues such as substance use disorder; mental illness; suicidality; intimate partner violence and child abuse. Dr. Cadiz is a published author and former Director of Best Practice Implementation for Reality House; a community based treatment program for individuals struggling with issues of addiction, mental health and interpersonal trauma. She is also the CEO of 747 Seminars which focuses on promoting projects and initiatives devoted to personal development, wellness and holistic life management. Her poetry, informed by her work and life experience, embodies a sense of transcendent connection that honors the nobility of the human spirit and its capacity to endure and prevail.

About the Exhibition: STRONGER TOGETHER exhibition is about the importance of various groups of people related by blood, marriage, adoption, or even chosen relationships, working beyond differences in order to reach a common goal of sharing and learning.As a first born daughter, my experience of my parents was totally different than my brother’s, and moreover, sharing space with my parents only allowed me a narrow perspective to who they are as people.Before I was born, Edwin and Sharon Cadiz were both active artists and mentors to community youth in Ravenswood Houses, our home and neighborhood in Long Island City. After my birth we grew together as they both achieved their academic goals. My mother is a writer and received her PhD in Early Childhood Development and Education. My father gained his Masters in Studio Art and Education.But living with others, whether family or friends, can sometimes feel like living with strangers, especially when there is a lack of communication and understanding.This exhibition is an investigation of both my parents as artists and ways our artworks share and discuss space and time. It’s a deliberate arrangement of visual artworks and writings that illustrates the ways we feel seen and heard.
