The Philosophical Research Society is excited to welcome back LA Loft Movie Club (LLMC) – a quarterly one-minute film festival which showcases the best of animation, comedy and video art – for their second screening of 2025: IS IT COLD IN THE WATER? This special evening promises to bring a one of a kind, mindblowing, twisted, and hilarious collection of 60 second films exploring the wide open-to-interpretation prompt of chill summer moments! Co-curated by filmmaker Luis A. Reyes, IS IT COLD IN THE WATER? is an exploration of the moments of cool on a hot summer day— whether they come as a welcome relief or a cold shock. It’s so hot out here, but the water may be freezing— would it be so bad to jump in either way? Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and come see our new shorts program on July 6th! Designed to inspire a wildly diverse range of filmic form and expression, LLMC’s poetic prompts leave interpretation wide open for creators – as evidenced by this evening’s prompt: <blockquote>For this one, think The Graduate but only the part where he’s in the pool. Think about the feeling of stepping on a mossy rock in a big lake. Or about being too hot to sleep and getting up to get a glass of water and standing in front of the open fridge, eyes glazed over. Think BRIGHT AND EMPTY! </blockquote> Since the inaugural screening Your Lunch Break is One Minute!, the festival has kept each prompt as outlandish and open to interpretation, with other titles like Above the Clouds, Below the Earth and Strike in the Arena!. By soliciting submissions based on a theme rather than asking for preexisting works, LLMC aims to bring together a whole that’s more than the sum of its parts, a kaleidoscopic thrill-ride of every possible interpretation of a given phrase. The sign-up-to-participate model is also an iteration of the festival’s DIY ethos— believing in the ability of artists to create great work at every stage of production value, of commitment, and of their career. The one minute model is designed to give filmmakers the excuse to put as much or little effort into executing their idea as they see necessary. This mix of mediums, interpretations and approaches create a kind of collective unconscious response to the prompt which must be seen to be believed. Their second fest of the year, IS IT COLD IN THE WATER? invites the LLMC filmmakers to capture the chill vibe of brief moments of respite from the sweaty swelter! On July 6th, LLMC is excited to return to PRS to play it cool with a must-see-to-belive collage of summery sixty second shorts! ABOUT LA LOFT MOVIE CLUBLA Loft Movie Club is a quarterly one-minute film festival, showcasing the best of animation, comedy and video art since 2022. Originally housed in a DTLA loft, they’ve gone on to screen at venues like Whammy! Analog Media, Braindead Studios, and even New York’s Roxy Cinema. PARKINGLimited parking is available onsite at PRS in both the front lot (entry from Los Feliz Blvd. when heading east) and back lot (entry from first alley way, off Griffith Park Blvd. from intersection with Los Feliz Blvd.), as well as street parking on Griffith Park Blvd. and (after 7 PM) on Los Feliz Blvd. We encourage attendees to consider carpooling, walking or biking to events if possible, and please be considerate of our Los Feliz neighbors when parking. PRS EVENT POLICIES<ul><li>We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.</li><li>Events are subject to change without notice, including guest speakers and/or performers.</li><li>We encourage you to arrive at least 30 min. before the scheduled event start time to find parking, enjoy the Bookstore and take your seats.</li><li>Please turn off all mobile devices before the show. Talking and texting are not allowed during the events.</li><li>No filming, audio recording or mobile phone recording of events, screenings, concerts or other programs by audience members is allowed without permission.</li><li>There is no smoking permitted on PRS grounds.</li><li>We strongly encourage guests to wear masks to PRS events to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.</li><li>PRS allows Service Animals into the facility under ADA and state guidelines. For further details please visit www.ADA.gov. No animals permitted whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support, under ADA guidelines and CA Health Code.</li><li>Please do not bring outside food or drink into PRS events.</li><li>Weapons are strictly prohibited at PRS events.</li></ul>
