Instructor: Arnie AronoffHow much time do you have to meet? Have you participated virtually or in person in interminable meetings, distracting yourself, dissociating, or worrying about the work you need to get done that you are not getting done because you are meeting? Whether you are on Zoom or gathering in-person, you can design and run a group huddle or department conversation that will be short and to the point. In this 90-minute workshop, we will explore techniques such as writing a time saving agenda, tracking the most essential components of group discussion, maintaining a laser-like focus, and creating a concise record of meeting decisions. We will examine when, why, and how one sometimes resists being a directive facilitator of brief department conversations or huddles and ways to address objections to running meetings in this way. We will also explore how to shift your own and your colleagues’ perspective on why you need to gather together in the first place and identify how much money it costs your department to meet at all.We will review models for a 15-minute huddle and both 30- and 45-minute group conversations. The workshop will include instructor lecture and experiential activities for workshop participants.This workshop will take place via Zoom. Access information will be shared via email prior to the start of the course.
