The African American Medical Librarians Alliance Caucus (AAMLA) is committed to providing leadership and support on issues such as recruiting and retaining diverse librarians, developing mentoring and leadership for minority librarians, and creating a repository of information on the expert skills and special abilities of minority librarians in MLA, particularly those of African American descent.AAMLA stands committed to bringing the challenges and issues of minority librarians and information professionals to the forefront. Our role is to help all medical librarians and information professionals understand and appreciate the dynamics of cultural diversity, as well as to recognized and address the needs for cultural competence in the healthcare environments.

Join us for Session 6 of AAMLA's  Radical Self-Care &amp; Wellness for Information Professionals webinar series.

Join us for Session 6 where Kaetrena Davis Kendrick presents Promoting Civility and Self-care in North American Libraries Kendrick will discuss the development of low-morale experiences, paying particular attention to data that reveal the unique challenges and impacts facing Black, Indigenous, and People of Color working in library environments and during a pandemic. Countermeasures will be shared, and attendees will have an opportunity to reflect on their experiences, ask questions about Kendrick's work, and reimagine workplace empowerment and self-preservation.About the Speaker: Kaetrena Davis Kendrick earned her MSLS from the historic Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Studies. Her research interests include professionalism, ethics, racial and ethnic diversity in the LIS field, and the role of communities of practice in practical academic librarianship. She is co-editor of The Small and Rural Academic Library: Leveraging Resources and Overcoming Limitations (ACRL 2016) and author of two annotated bibliographies. In addition to her research and writing, Kendrick also leads professional development opportunities and organizational dialogues designed to energize employee morale and promote empathetic leadership in North American libraries. In her daily and long-term work, Kendrick has transformed library programs, services, and culture via creativity, leadership, and advocacy. In 2019, Kendrick was named the Association of College and Research Libraries' Academic/Research Librarian of the Year.
