Founded in 1980, Zaccho Dance Theatre is an innovative force in both the world of dance and our home community of Bayview Hunters Point, San Francisco’s African American Arts & Cultural District. Zaccho Dance Theatre creates and presents performance work that investigates dance as it relates to place. Artistic Director Joanna Haigood and collaborators pursue unique and challenging visions of dance, including spectacular aerial choreography, evocative site-specific performances, and culturally significant subject matter. Zaccho collaborates with an extraordinary group of diverse artists to create unique and innovative performances and elevate the work to international acclaim.

Join us in community for one of 5 events during Juneteenth week leading up to the West Coast Premiere of The Bronx Revolution & The Birth of Hip Hop.  Five opportunities to experience the Art of Hip Hop with those who pioneered the culture!

For Local DJs, Turntablists, and Lovers of Hip Hop CultureThe Art of the SCRATCH, Pt II brings the turntables to the spotlight in an electrifying DJ panel and performance featuring the legendary DJ Qbert, a visionary who has advanced the craft, and a special appearance by Grandwizzard Theodore, the inventor of the scratch. This event is for the heads, the crate diggers, the rhythm technicians—and anyone who lives and breathes Hip Hop. Join us for an unforgettable evening of conversation and creativity as these icons share stories from the frontlines of DJ history, demonstrate next-level techniques, and reflect on how scratching has evolved across generations and regions. Special guests will include East 3 from The Rock Steady Crew and surprise guests who continue to push the culture forward, followed by live performances that showcase the raw power of the wheels of steel.
