Looking for a lively change of pace and splash of creative fun? Come on over and play your way to the page with Society of Young Inklings’ Family Story Nights.This spring, we’re offering three Family Story Nights. Each features an author leading your family through a creative workshop designed to help you stretch your thinking skills and tap into your unique voice.Stories offer us ways to play together, to connect, and to share our perspective and ideas. At Young Inklings, we tap into storytelling in playful, hands-on ways that bypass resistance so that we can access wholehearted connection.Why do we love stories? Because we love characters! And we want to cheer for them as they face the challenges of their worlds. In this SYI Family Story Night, author <a href="https://www.kellymcwilliamsauthor.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a><a href="https://lisariddiough.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lisa Frenkel Riddiough</a> will guide your family through an interactive activity to help you each make a truly special character. What makes your character tick? What keeps them moving forward? How do they communicate with others? Lisa Frenkel Riddiough has an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University. Her critical thesis was titled, It’s Not Just Talk: How Empathy Elevates When Talking Animals Exist in Contemporary Human Settings – Middle-Grade. In this study, she paid specific attention to the ways in which animal and human characters struggle to communicate with one another. In addition to writing middle-grade, Lisa writes picture books and “grown-up” short stories and essays.Lisa’s debut middle-grade novel, ELVIS AND THE WORLD AS IT STANDS, is forthcoming by Abrams Books for Young Readers (Fall 2021). She has a couple of picture books under contract as well and is anxiously awaiting those announcements. Lisa is grateful that a side-effect of writing is forced patience. She has always wanted to be a patient person.Lisa is based in Northern California where she lives with her husband in their empty nest. When she is not writing, Lisa enjoys working in the garden, sipping on half-caf iced mochas, and organizing her sprinkle drawer.She is represented by Jennifer Mattson of the Andrea Brown Literary Agency.Tickets are by donation and only one ticket is needed per household. The suggested donation amount is $25 per family.
