Intro to Mindfulness with Matt Fritts MPH, PMP (CLAS '97), Well-Being Specialist, University of Virginia Human Resources

All alumni, parents, and friends are invited to join the UVA Club of Washington, DC for an informative event on the power of mindfulness! We&#x27;ll be joined by <a href="https://hr.virginia.edu/wellness/about-us" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Matt Fritts</a> MPH, PMP (CLAS &#x27;97), a Well-Being Specialist with University of Virginia&#x27;s Human Resources.The word “meditation” is analogous to “sports.” There are many different types, and the purpose of meditation is to train the mind—just as one goes to the gym regularly to train the body. Mindfulness is one type of meditation that focuses on bringing attention to the present moment experience, without judging. Mindfulness has been researched extensively, resulting in robust evidence of its positive impact on reducing stress, managing chronic conditions, fostering healthy habits, and creating well-being. During this 30-minute session, participants will have an opportunity to experience a guided mindfulness session, as well as learn about resources in the DC metro area, and practical ways to introduce and sustain a mindfulness practice in their daily life. About the Presenter:Matt Fritts MPH, PMP (CLAS &#x27;97) is a member of the University of Virginia&#x27;s &quot;Hoos Well Team,&quot; which provides resources to ensure UVA faculty, staff, and team members are living healthy, happier lives. Matt is a UVA alumnus (and former Lawn resident) who has since earned his Master of Public Health with Honors from The George Washington University. His 20 years of experience in the public health field include positions within the National Cancer Institute’s Behavioral Research Program and at the Samueli Institute, a non-profit clinical research organization.Matt uses his expertise in psychological health to plan Hoos Well programs that focus on enhancing mental and emotional well-being!The Zoom link to join us will be sent via email before the event.For more information on this event, please contact Aaron Way (CLAS &#x27;14), UVA Club of Washington, DC Social Committee Co-Chair, at uvasocial@dchoos.org.
