Interested in the practice of mindfulness as a path to social change? Willing to take a look at your own capacity for change and peace? Join us for a workshop exploring mindfulness as a practice of Just Transition. In order to dismantle the systems of oppression that exist in the world we must face the systems of oppression that live within us. This requires heartfulness, mindfulness, and the cultivation of internal peace. GWI is focused on Just Transition (JT) in the Hudson Valley. Mindfulness is a tool of JT. In order to achieve Just Transition we need to start with ourselves. This requires mindfulness - paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, without judgement. We will explore what this means, how it shows up in ourselves, and how others are weaving mindfulness into their work of changing the world. And most importantly we will practice.FACILITATORSThis offering was developed by the GWI Academy Circle and Shawn Harrison of <a href="https://www.wellbeinghudsonvalley.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">well+being hudson valley</a>.Micah (he/him) is of mixed race (black and white) and mixed religion, and grew up in two different socio-economic homes. He is a cisgendered, working/middle class parent of two living on Munsee/Lenape land in the Mahicantuck Valley, commonly referred today as Kingston, NY, working to prove possibility and to liberate the imagination in order to see a Just Transition.Shawn (she/her) is a white, cisgendered woman dedicated to encouraging us all to take good care of our bodies, minds and each other. Her approach is anchored in the values of heartfulness, kindfulness and mindfulness. Shawn is interested in creating an environment where inclusivity, equity, social justice and peace are possible. In addition to 16+ years practicing, studying and teaching yoga and meditation, Shawn lived and worked for 4 years at yoga and meditation center, ananda ashram. She has a B.S. in human development from Vanderbilt University and is trained in the evidence-based MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction) through Brown University.REGISTRATIONDeadline: We are limiting the number of participants, and encourage you to register early to save your spot! Registration closes February 9th.Fee: In lieu of a set registration fee, we are requesting $25 to help underwrite the cost of offering this workshop. GWI does not want your current access to financial resources to impede your participation. We don’t know whether your current access to financial resources is ample or limited. We are grateful to receive an offering aligned with what you can give, which may be more or less than $25. Please select only one ticket type upon registering.
