Centering on the works featured in the exhibition, the talk will explore tensions between painting and installation, the transient and the permanent, and shifting representations of femininity in her work. Depicting struggle, suppression and hostility that is tempered by humor shapes her works, and are like fragmented images and objects which are mixed with poetry that constantly move from the real to the fantasy, from figuration to abstraction.Kashiha’s work has been widely exhibited in Iran, the United States and Europe. Select solo exhibitions include: Another world is waiting for us at Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Brussels (2023); In Appreciation of Blinking at Parallel Circuit, Tehran (2021); I’m Here, I’m Not Here at Passerelle Centre d’Art Contemporain, Brest (2022). Notable group exhibitions include: the imaginary made real at Berry Campbel(2024), 100 Years, a collaborative group exhibition by Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch at Miami Art Week (2022); Dogtooth at Helena Anrather, New York (2022); Vacation at Gallery Vacancy, Shanghai (2021); City Prince/sses at Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2019); Human Condition at the former Los Angeles Metropolitan Medical Center, Los Angeles (2016).The artist is featured in an interview “How I became an artist: Hoda Kashiha”, published by Art Basel in 2023. She is also featured in Art in America (2022), FAD magazine (2022), Frieze (2022) and Artforum (2022) and new York times(2021). Leah Triplett is a curator and writer, currently serving as the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). Her writing has appeared in ArtAsiaPacific, ArtNet News, Sculpture, Public Art Dialogue, Flash Art, Hyperallergic, The Brooklyn Rail, and others. She taught critical writing in the painting and sculpture MFA programs at Boston University from 2021 to 2023. She is currently Mary Ann Unger Estate Fellow, researching the artist’s late 1970s and early 1980s works.
