Join us for this exciting event at the LSE with Susana Muhamad, who was until recently Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development in Colombia's government led by Gustavo Petro. As Minister from 2022 to 2025, Muhamad spearheaded one of the most radical approaches globally to ending the reliance on fossil fuel production. She will speak about her first-hand experience from inside Colombia's government of the challenge of moving past fossil fuels and what kind of systemic change is required in a divided world. Muhamad will be joined by several influential respondents including:Peter Newell, Professor of International Relations at the University of Sussex and one of the world's leading scholars on the political economy of energy transitions and the politics of fossil fuels.Amiera Sawas, Head of Research and Policy for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative.Chaired by Joana Setzer, Associate Professorial Research Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the LSE.Organised by Lukas Slothuus, Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the "SUSPOL: Supply-side Policies for Fossil Fuels" research project at the University of Sussex and a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Government at LSE. His research focuses on the politics of social transformations, particularly in relation to fossil fuels.
