2021 C-STEM Symposium

The mission of the C-STEM Center is to improve computing, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (C-STEM) education in both formal and informal K-14 programs through integrated learning. The goal of the C-STEM Center is to broaden participation of students, especially female and underrepresented minorities, in computing and to develop students’ computer-aided problem-solving skills to tackle real-world STEM problems through integrated computing and STEM education. Our vision is  to provide formal computing education for all K-12 students. The C-STEM Center studies how to use innovative computing and robotics technologies to increase student interest and help them learn STEM subjects with an emphasis on Algebra, the gatekeeper for STEM disciplines. The C-STEM Center also studies how to streamline the curriculum on computing education in the context of STEM subjects in elementary schools, middle schools, and  high schools, as well as the first two years of college to increase student interest in pursuing computing and STEM related careers and post-secondary study.

Hands-on Learning with Coding and Robotics in the Classroom and at Distance

The UC Davis C-STEM Center, Redlands Unified School District, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, and partners have collaborated to organize the 2021 C-STEM Symposium. The theme of this year’s virtual symposium is Hands-on Learning with Coding and Robotics in the Classroom and at a Distance. All educators are invited to this one-day event packed with inspiring speeches and hands-on sessions about transforming math, CS, and STEAM education with coding and robotics.C-STEM is a UC Approved Educational Preparation Program for Undergraduate Admission for all UC campuses with UCOP A-G Program Status. The C-STEM program transforms math education, helps close the math achievement gap, and engages traditionally unrepresented groups and at risk students in hands-on learning math with computing and robotics, as shown in <a href="https://c-stem.ucdavis.edu/about-us/success/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">C-STEM Math Success Stories</a>.Experienced C-STEM teachers will share their insights and strategies for integrating C-STEM coding and robotics into classroom teaching, and how to get started. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore <a href="https://c-stem.ucdavis.edu/curriculum/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">C-STEM Math-ICT Curriculum</a>, strategies, resources, and robotics with Arduino and Linkbots.
