As we discuss the Wheel of the Year, we understand that not everyone follows a path that recognizes the holidays on the Wheel. However, everyone - even our mundane friends and family - recognizes the turn of the seasons. Summer solstice, also known as Midsummer or Litha, is a celebration that most pagans can relate to. It is officially the first day of summer in the US. Now, this might be confusing when we often call this celebration Midsummer but in many places, especially in Central Florida, it is the middle of summer and not the start of it! The Summer Solstice is the longest day and shortest night of they year. It is one of four solar festivals in the wheel of the year. This is a time to remember that nothing lasts forever - the sun will not always be out as long as it is on this day. Nevertheless, celebrate the warmth of the sun. Light (need) fires with a lens and the sun. Acknowledge the sun rising and thank the sun when it sets.A few correspondences of the season:Colors - red, yellow, gold and any other colors of the sun and flamesCrystals - tiger's eye, clear quartz, topaz, amberSymbols - sun wheels, sun, fire, roses, rayed flowers, torchesEnergies - power, creativity, inspiration, love, division, god energy, healing, fertilization
