Trail Edging and English Ivy Removal

The Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail works to maintain and improve the Mount Vernon Trail and promote its safe use.

Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail

Volunteers will remove debris and edge the trail to improve drainage to prevent icing. Volunteers will also remove ivy from trees.

Theodore Roosevelt Island Parking

Volunteers will use shovels, brooms and rakes to remove organic debris and overgrowth from the edge of the trail. This debris contributes to standing water on portions of the trail causing dangerous ice.Volunteers will also remove English Ivy from trees along the trail. English Ivy is an invasive species that kills trees by smothering leaves, creating rot and weighing down branches. This also increases the risk that a tree will fall on a trail user.No special skills are needed. We&#x27;ll teach you how to help in just a few minutes.What to Bring:<ol><li> Work Gloves (We will have several to borrow)</li><li> Water to drink</li><li> A face covering</li></ol>Getting there: See the image below for the event start location. It is half a mile south of the Theodore Roosevelt Island parking lot.
