The costs of the global pandemic is high - loss of jobs, opportunities and even loved ones. As a result, many starts to question the meaning of life and what to prioritise.What is the point of living when life is unbearable, especially when we do end up dying at the end? Some may find consolation in religion while some continues to be lost in meaninglessness, unable to find a way to continue with life. Without finding a settling answer to the fundamental question of existence, existential crisis and depression become the regular visitors of their lives, taking away happiness and livelihood.Statistics showed a reduction across the three measures - happiness, meaning in life, and optimism in the large group of people after the pandemic emerged. However, interestingly, 20% of the people surveyed reported increased levels of happiness, optimism and meaning in life. This could be attributed to resilience in the face of meaninglessness of life, leading to an improved sense of wellbeing.This event explores views of existentialists, nihilists and especially absurdists, their responses towards the big question of meaning of life to open up new perspectives and potentially helping people to rediscover their inner compasses to cope with the loss of direction and meaning in life. This event will make major reference to Albert Camus and his work, The Plague which explores the view of Absurdism. Absurdism, explores how we can develop an attitude of resilience, rising everyday stronger to fight the battle of life we know we cannot win. This could be the key to why a subset of population restores happiness and wellbeing in the midst of hopelessness and meaninglessness. The invited speaker for this event is Mr Tzu Kit Chan, International Philosophy Olympiad finalist of the year 2018. Join us to gain a deeper understanding on the question of meaning of life, and let us inspire you on how to move forward and reorient your life compass in this trying times of uncertainty.
