Join this 6 week course to discover how to make difficult conversations a little easier for you. Offered on a gift economy basis. 

Do you find yourself avoiding certain conversations? Do you sometimes feel like talking is not getting you anywhere, or makes things worse? We invite you to bring your conversation challenges and concerns to see what wisdom emerges from welcoming and acknowledging them. This workshop will help you develop:<ul><li>Awareness of what makes conversations difficult for you and others</li></ul><ul><li>Skills for identifying and sharing what matters to you </li></ul><ul><li>Skills for understanding what matters to others</li></ul><ul><li>A personal process for making decisions about when and how to engage in conversations, considering your unique strengths and limitations</li></ul><ul><li>Practices to integrate what you learn into your daily life</li></ul>Our workshops are grounded in principles from Nonviolent Communication (NVC) by Marshall Rosenberg. <h3>What to expect</h3>In each session, we plan to offer guided activities to support you in developing awareness and skills for engaging in difficult conversations. Our intention is to create a learning space where we can engage in discovery, reflection, and knowledge sharing as a community. We will invite you to whole group discussions and small group practices so that you can learn in different environments. We see ourselves as guides, sharing knowledge that inspires us and offering guidance as a starting point for reflection. We think of teaching as holding a flashlight and directing a beam of light to a specific place. By directing our attention there, invisible insights may emerge from the background. After offering a foundation for exploring together, we want the flashlight to circulate in the group, to be passed from hand to hand, so that everyone can light up and indicate what is important. This metaphor is our invitation to co-create knowledge together.<h3>What is requested when you choose to attend? </h3><ul><li>joining us for at least 5 of the 6 sessions</li><li>openness to try out new things during the workshop, which may feel uncomfortable (we will support you by reminding you that you can pass and discard anything that does not work for you)</li><li>willingness to share some of your experiences with others</li><li>getting to know our approach to money and deciding how much you contribute</li></ul>

<h3>Deciding how much to contribute</h3>This course is being offered on a sliding scale to support more financial equity and help move our society toward a needs-based economy. We estimate it will take an average of $180 per person ($30 per session) to make this course financially sustainable for us (to cover enough of our living expenses to be able to do this work). We invite you to contribute an amount that feels generous and financially sustainable for you.If you have concerns or questions about making a financial contribution, please talk to one of us. We value these conversations as an opportunity to learn, connect, and find creative ways to attend to everyone's needs.
